All up I think about 50 hours of work went into this, spread out over a month. It's been one long, painstaking effort but absolutely worth it in the end! All I need to do now is squish this under some heavy books for a day or so, seal it with UV blocking clearcoat and ship it off to Canada. I switched my paint brand halfway though this when I realised that my Pebeo 24-set dry in weird pastel colours and just don't build up dark or deep enough. They'll be fine for birds and flowers but I won't use them for illustrations like this in the future, I'll stick to my W&N Cotman colours for that. When it comes to watercolour, more isn't necessarily better!
